RE
"RE is the open exploration of what people believe, their way of life and the impact of beliefs, values and ways of living in local, national and global communities."
The Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabush of Religious Education, 2023-2028
Intent
Our RE curriculum presents our children with ‘big questions’ which aim to enable them to engage in a deeper understanding of how a religion influences an individual’s life. Children will develop a deep understanding of Christianity and will be exposed to the principal world religions and non-religious worldviews. By educating our children about other people’s lives and worldviews, we enable them to reflect on what they believe and the choices they make, thus enabling them to develop an understanding of themselves and tolerance and respect for others.
Implementation
Our RE curriculum is underpinned by the eight areas of learning of the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus which supports the statutory elements for Religious Education. We use the National Association of RE teachers scheme to support us in our content choices. RE is taught through weekly, discreet lessons in KS1 and KS2, through child initiated play and teacher led sessions in EYFS, in addition to collective worship during whole school and class assemblies. The children’s learning is further enhanced by faith visitors and visits to places of worship.
The eight key areas of learning are:
- Belief and practices
- Sources of wisdom
- Symbols and actions
- Prayer, worship and reflection
- Identify and belonging
- Ultimate questions
- Human responsibility and values
- Justice and fairness
