Music

"Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity." The Primary National Curriculum 2014.

Intent

Our music curriculum will engage and inspire our pupils to foster a lifelong love of music. Through exploring a rich and diverse range of music styles from around the world, children will develop their cultural capital. Children will develop musical skills in listening, reviewing, performing and evaluating music to grow their confidence and creativity, as well as show respect for each other as performers and for the instruments they use. They will collaborate to create, rehearse and perform music to a range of audiences.

Implementation

Weekly music lessons are delivered by class teachers using a planned, sequenced curriculum that enables children to experience a broad range of music through listening, evaluating, composing and playing. First Access Music provides instrument lessons for a whole class with instruments provided, such as ukulele and cornet. Some music tuition, i.e. piano lessons, is provided via Herts Music Service, and many pupils enjoy playing in the Rocksteady rock bands. Musical performances at Christmas and at the end of the summer term provide children with an opportunity to perform for an audience.
