Air resistance

As part of their Forces unit, Year 5 pupils embarked on an engaging investigation into air resistance. The project began with a simple yet insightful experiment: dropping two different sizes of paper to observe how air resistance affects their descent.

Next, pupils designed and constructed parachutes of varying sizes, applying their understanding of air resistance to real-world applications. To further explore this concept, the class ventured onto the school field for a fun and interactive activity. Pupils attached their parachutes to their backs and timed their sprints, gaining a hands-on understanding of how air can exert force against moving objects.

Through this engaging project, Year 5 developed a deep appreciation of the role of air resistance in everyday life.
