As a community school we follow the admissions procedures of Hertfordshire Education Authority for both in year admissions (at a time other than September of the academic year in which the child is 5) and admissions into Reception. Details of these can be found on the county website:
Before applying for a place, we recommend that you visit us to see for yourselves. We welcome visits to the school and an appointment can be made by phoning or emailing the office.
In-Year Admissions are subject to availability of places.
This can be an anxious time for both you and your child and we take pride in the way that our new children settle into school. All new children are made to feel welcome and will be given a ‘buddy’ to look after them while they settle in.
Generally, children start the Reception class in the year in which they reach their fifth birthday. There is a phased entry to Reception, with children attending initially until lunchtime, then until after lunchtime. Full attendance is usually achieved by the beginning of the third week. Children may start full-time from the beginning of September if parents desire it.
Parents, whose child is starting school in the Reception year, are invited to attend a coffee morning at the end of May to meet some of their fellow parents and to help them feel part of the Windermere community. Our new pupils will have two opportunities to visit for an afternoon so that they begin to recognise people and get to know some of the classroom routines. The Reception class teacher and SENCo also contact nurseries and pre-school settings to discuss pupils’ needs. In addition to this parents are invited to come into school and meet with the class teacher and SENCo to discuss their individual child. There is also an afternoon session for parents when you will be able to ask questions, buy uniform and receive our ‘welcome’ pack.
Admissions for Reception 2020
There will be two open days for parents of pupils due to start school in September 2020. The first will be on November 7th and there will be a second session in January.
There will be a short welcome from the Headteacher followed by tours of the school. If you are unable to attend either of these sessions, please contact the school office.
As a community school, Windermere Primary follows the admissions arrangements set by the County Council for all Hertfordshire Schools. Details of these arrangements can be found using the link above.
