Welcome to Year Three

As the children move into KS2 we support them to become more independent learners. They are encouraged to try new challenges in lessons and to celebrate their successes. The pupils are given opportunities to take on a variety of roles and responsibilities within the class and are encouraged to take pride in both their own appearance as well as the appearance of the classroom.

In Year Three we try to link different aspects of the curriculum to our class topics. A variety of learning styles are deployed to meet the children’s varying needs. Personal achievements are celebrated and house points or merits are awarded.

Homework is based around preparing for or consolidating the children’s learning. They will have two sets of homework each week.  On a Monday they are set 6 spellings to learn for a test on Friday, the spelling sheet should be returned to school on the Friday.  On Thursdays they are set homework (based on Literacy, Maths or Topic work) and times tables to practise, which is due in the following Wednesday. Sometimes the class may be set longer pieces of homework e.g. over Christmas or Easter. If homework is not handed in on time, it will not be able to be marked.  Any missing homework will need to be completed a school on a Thursday.

Physical Education is on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon and the children need to have their P.E. kits in for these sessions (e.g. black shorts, school t-shirt or white shirt and trainers or plimsolls). We would ask that they try to have their PE kit in school during the week to allow for any timetable variation.

I am always happy to meet with any parents to discuss their child’s progress or to find out more about Year Three.
