Fundraising Activities

As well as the fundraising that the PTA carries out on our behalf, the children do some of their own fundraising. This helps them to recognise that they are part of a global community as well as the school community.  They also learn that others are less fortunate than they are.  In addition to this, raising money for some of their own wants, helps the children to respect the value of money and the resources they have.

Examples of fundraising activities carried out are:

Children in Need
Everyone dressed up in pyjamas and then held a cake bake after school.

Comic Relief (Red Nose Day) – Best Batch Bake Off
The children baked batches of cakes and biscuits. These were judged and the winners were awarded Comic Relief prizes.  Then all the cakes and biscuits were sold after school to raise money.

Easter Egg Raffle
Each year, the staff donate lots of Easter eggs and then the children buy raffle tickets, hoping to win chocolate goodies.  The funds raised go towards playground equipment.

Hearing Dogs for the Deaf
We are continuing to collect used stamps which are used to fund Hearing Dogs.

At the end of term we held a non-uniform day to raise money for Unicef’s work in war-torn Syria.

We have previously collected money towards ShelterBox. These crates contain everything a family needs to survive when they are made homeless by disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and war.  The Rotary Club of St Albans kindly offered to match whatever we raised.

The Living Room
Last year for Harvest Festival we collected essential supplies for a local charity – The Living Room.  This organisation helps individuals and their families who are affected by all sorts of addictions.

Socks for Nepal
This year our Harvest Festival collection is socks!  Inspired by Molly, one of our Year 6 pupils, we are collecting socks to send to Nepal with a UK charity group called SODAHAR.

Cancer Research
Although we model charitable giving as a community, it is always exciting when one of our pupils initiates their own charity activities.  Last year Katie ran her very own cake bake in aid of Cancer Research.

Herts Air Ambulance
This worthy cause is one that we all hope we will never need to call on, but are grateful that it is there if we do. Previously we collected clothes for their Bag It campaign and last year we held a coffee morning to raise funds for them.
